A LEVEL COURSE CONTENT
The Legal System and Criminal Law – Section A of this paper focuses on the civil and criminal courts, the legal professions and access to justice. You will develop knowledge and understanding of the processes and people involved in the law and the changing nature of the legal system. Section B focuses on the rules and general elements of criminal law and non-fatal offences against the person, fatal offences against the person, offences
against property and general defences. You will develop knowledge and understanding of criminal law and the skills to apply your legal knowledge to scenario based questions. You will also gain a critical awareness of the present state of criminal law.
Law Making and the Law of Tort – Section A focuses on law making within England and Wales as well as the European Union. You will study law making methods and their underpinning concepts. You will develop an understanding of legal method and reasoning as used by lawyers and the judiciary. Section B focuses on the rules of tort, liability in negligence, occupiers’ liability and remedies. You will also learn about torts connected to land, vicarious liability, defences and remedies. You will develop your understanding of the law of tort and the skills to apply your legal knowledge to scenario based questions. You will also gain a critical awareness of the present state of the law of tort.
Further Law (Human Rights) – Section A focuses on the nature of law. You will explore the nature of law in a wider context and develop your understanding of how the law interacts with society, technology, morality and justice. Section B focuses on human rights including their nature, protection and constitutional position under UK law. Specific rights are explored in detail as are the restrictions upon them and the process of enforcement through the courts.

GCSE 5 grades 9-4 plus GCSE English at Grade 5 or above.
WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT?
The course aims to allow students to explore the various facets of British and European Law. This involves knowing how the elements of British Law work in practice and the theories behind them. You will be expected to work through various cases, statutes and procedures in order to increase your knowledge of the legal process and to challenge your outcomes.

You will develop skills of critique and analysis, using the information you gain from different sources to form and articulate your point of view.

There will three examinations, all of which will be sat at the end of year 13
