New for 2018 – BTECs in Applied Science, Music Technology/Performance, Psychology and Sport.
In order to complement our existing vocational courses in OCR Cambridge Technicals Media and ICT, we are expanding our options to include BTECs. These courses are available to students who achieve 4 Grade 9 to 4 including a Grade 5 in English Language and may be taken as a set of BTEC qualifications or mixed with A Levels (so long as the entry requirements for A Levels are met).
BTEC Nationals are a widely recognised qualification that have been successfully equipping young people with knowledge and key skills for over 30 years. They are accepted by over 150 UK universities and higher education institutes for relevant degree programmes. Large companies value the work ethic and independence young people gain from completing BTEC qualifications and actively recruit those who have this qualification. BTECs successfully combine a learner-centred approach with the development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education. The BTEC nationals of today have been developed following consultation with employers and higher education institutions.

BTEC LEVEL 3 NATIONAL EXTENDED CERTIFICATE IN APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY
BTECs are a different way to learn. Exams and assessments still play a part, but BTECs allow students greater independence in how they research and complete tasks, to show their knowledge and understanding.
Psychology is a hugely varied subject. The new BTECs have not yet been written by the Pearson group, so in this prospectus, it is not yet possible to include specific course content. In the past however, similar courses
have included elements of Health and Sports Psychology, Developmental and Child Psychology, Criminal Psychology, as well as traditional elements of Psychology such as looking at the structure of the brain, memory,
Psychoanalysis, Clinical Psychology and perception.
WHAT COULD THIS QUALIFICATION LEAD TO?
Psychology is a valued subject in many different areas. Finham Park has an excellent track record of students studying Psychology at University, where they can then specialise. Universities overwhelmingly accept BTECs,
therefore degrees in Psychology are a possibility. Psychology students are generally inquisitive, curious about people and how they work, astute at observing, and are good communicators – so careers within Psychology
and the NHS are possibilities, aswell as Social Work, Sports and Elite Performance, Education and other sciences.
